Almost there!


New update today! Here's what's new:

Changes/Improvements

  • Added some minor model variations to the different bee units. Drones now wield a pair of boxing gloves (and punch with them rather than stinging enemies) and scientists now have a monocle-style lens over one of their eyes.
  • The Hive and rotten stumps will now catch fire once they fall below a certain threshold of their total health. These flames intensify once they are reduced to 1/3 of their total health.
  • Added some sound effects for various actions (placing buildings, gathering pebbles, attacks from hive defenses, attacks from enemies [alarms], buzzing). Yes, the bees and wasps now buzz when flying!
  • Added explosion VFX for when an enemy is attacked by the Hive's defenses.
  • Added error message dialog that will display when the player performs an invalid action.
  • Added a better health bar sprite.
  • Removed the rotten stumps in the corners of the map. This was necessary to make early game survival doable. More balancing updates may come later.

Fixes

  • Improved unit pathfinding.
  • Enemies will now consistently face the direction they are moving and will face their target once they stop moving.
  • Unit movement between grid cells in the same direction has now mostly been smoothed.
  • Fixed issue where bees would not return to a resource node after depositing their collected resources.
  • Made some layering changes to reduce issues with various layer-dependent aspects of the code.
  • Units will now repeat their attack animations properly.
  • Fixed incorrect dialog display when the player wins the game.
  • Fixed issue where hive defenses would attack per-frame rather than its current attack rate.

Known Issues

  • Enemies will not move to occupy grid cells closer to their target that were previously occupied by a unit that has recently died.
  • As the size of the enemy waves increases, there is a chance the game will temporarily freeze when the wave launches its attack on the hive.
  • A bee does not currently need to be next to its target cell when placing a building.
  • Some sounds effects and BGM are still not implemented. We are endeavouring to have these ready before the end of Game Off 2021.
  • All buildings except the lab are currently using placeholder models. We will endeavour to have the final assets in-game before the end of Game Off 2021.
  • Withered daisies can have nectar harvested from them. In a future release these will need to be restored by scientists before they can be harvested from.
